Experience
The company Dipl.-Ing. H. Horstmann GmbH was founded in 1946 by Heinrich Horstmann in Heiligenhaus near Düsseldorf (Germany). In this post-war period the company started repairing overhead cables and lighting systems with a small staff team. In consequence of the frequent cable faults which appeared in the then partly damaged power supply networks, the company developed a simple mechanical short-circuit indicator in the same year. Later on the product spectrum was first extended by additional safety equipment, such as earthing and short-circuiting devices, followed by voltage testers and test systems.

In 1960, a branch of the company was opened in Körperich / Eifel (Germany) close to the border of Luxembourg. This facility focuses on the production of mechanical short-circuit indicators and components.
In 1971 the company was joined by the three sons Jochen, Hendrik und Werner Horstmann. The company was expanded to include, besides mere mechanical devices, the manufacture of electro-technical short-circuit indicators and voltage testers. In 1985, the three sons took over the company which then employed already more than 70 staff members.
In 1981, a legally independent company was founded to supply transformer substations either for purchase or lease. (www.horstmann-schwarz.de)
In the late eighties, the first modern SMD (Surface Mounted Devices) assembly machine was acquired on account of which the firm was enabled to manufacture the continuously increasing number of pieces of electro-technical short-circuit indicators and simultaneously miniaturizing the components by means of an automatic assembly system and soldering unit.
In 1990, the company moved to the new building in Humboldtstrasse 2, Heiligenhaus, which is today's headquarters of HORSTMANN.
In the following years continual and sustained investments in both manufacturing locations were made. Today, the modern manufacturing plants of HORSTMANN reflect a progressive-minded enterprise using and structured on advanced technology.
