Voltage detectors with built-in self-test
The Comet voltage detectors from Horstmann are used to determine the operating voltage, with a clear indication of “voltage present” or “voltage not present”. They have an integrated self-test, which is used to carry out a function check before use.
Developed with a clear focus on the requirements of technicians, these robust test devices not only offer maximum measuring accuracy but also integrated self-testing, which increases your safety and makes everyday work easier.

The Comet series consists of six appliances:
- Comet BL-I | Comet BL-A – Classic design
- Comet BS-I | Comet BS-A – Classic design + switchable
- Comet BK-I | Comet BK-A – Shortened design
In accordance with DGUV regulation 3 (Table 1c), all Comet appliances are subject to the maintenance test prescribed every 6 years.

BL-I / BL-A are single-pole, capacitive voltage detectors. The voltage detectors are provided with a built-in self-test facility which checks the function of the circuit including the contact electrode (comprehensive self-test function) before each use.

The Comet BS-I and BS-A are single-pole, switchable voltage detectors in a shortened design. The voltage detectors are provided with a built-in self-test facility which checks the function of the circuit including the contact electrode (comprehensive self-test function) before each use.
The turning knob is used to select between three nominal voltage ranges:
0: Off
1: 5 – 10 kV
2: 10 – 20 kV
3: 20 – 30 kV
